We have invited the LambMowers, a unique bovine landscaping crew from Fairfax, to assist us with removing invasive plants that have re-sprouted since our last volunteer work session in the Common Area.
The crew of about 15 sheep, of various ages, will be on site from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. You are invited to come and meet them, including Elfie, the flock leader; Minty Chocolate Chip; this year’s Spring lambs, Jack, and Jill; and the whole crew. You’ll see the Babydoll Southdown Sheep hard at work under the direction of Shepherd Cory Suter.
The sheep will be working within temporary fencing placed on the field. You have the option of getting close to some of them or keeping your distance. The sheep are gentle and used to having an admiring audience. They are frightened by loud noises and sudden movement, so children are requested to be respectful as they work; and avoid running/shouting. They also may be frightened of dogs; the family dog should wait at home; tell him about the sheep later.
When not watching/petting sheep, our kids may want to make a sheep memento or tattoo to remember the event.
There will be a course set up for the Celebrated Leaping Frog of Fairfax County race. Kids must select from among the frogs provided; no outside frogs permitted. 😉 The course provides for three frogs in a heat. Kids may run as many heats as they like to determine an overall winner.
Please bring your own personal water in a reusable bottle, or other beverage, to stay hydrated. The sheep will bring their own too.
Please use the SignUpGenius below to let us know if you are coming and to indicate how you can assist with the event, by August 6th.
We look forward to seeing you at our Common Area at the entrance to our neighborhood. Upon arrival, please make way for the LambMower trailer to park at the north end of the field.
